A LITTLE HELP
Back to the music.
Simple answers for getting settled into Vinylen.
Vinylen for Mac and iPad · macOS 14 or iPadOS 17 or later · Updated October 2, 2026
Play Apple Music inside Vinylen
On Mac, choose Apple Music, then “Play in Vinylen.” On iPad, tap Connect. Allow Apple Music access when your device asks. You’ll need an active Apple Music subscription. Choose a song, album, or playlist to start listening.
If access is denied, allow Media & Apple Music for Vinylen in macOS System Settings or iPadOS Settings, then return and retry. Make sure the device is signed into the Apple Account with your subscription.
Follow playback from the Music app
Choose Apple Music, then “Follow Music app.” Open the Music app, choose something to play, and connect Vinylen. Allow Automation access so Vinylen can read the current song and control playback.
Vinylen may also request Apple Music access to find album covers. Connecting alone does not start a song.
Connect the Spotify desktop app
Install the Spotify app for Mac and sign in there. Open it, then choose Spotify in Vinylen and connect. Allow Automation when prompted. Start a song in the Spotify desktop app; Vinylen will follow it.
The Spotify web player is not supported by this integration. If Spotify is not detected, reopen its Mac app and retry the connection.
Allow or restore music permissions
For Music app or Spotify control, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation. Under Vinylen, enable Music or Spotify as appropriate, then reconnect.
For native Apple Music playback and catalog artwork, check Media & Apple Music in Privacy & Security. If an entry is missing, return to Vinylen and attempt to connect so macOS can request permission. Settings labels may differ slightly by macOS version.
An album cover is missing or looks out of date
Check your internet connection and confirm the correct track is playing in your selected service. Use “Retry artwork” when Vinylen shows it. If prompted, allow Apple Music access for cover lookups.
Some tracks have no matching artwork. Music app mode uses embedded artwork or a matching Apple catalog cover; Spotify uses the artwork supplied by its desktop app. A cover may be unavailable even when playback works.
Keep the record still with Reduce Motion
On your Mac, open System Settings → Accessibility and find Reduce Motion under Display or Motion. Vinylen follows this setting: the record stays still and the tonearm moves instantly. Audio playback is unaffected.
This website also respects your system’s reduced-motion preference. You can pause its decorative animation using “Pause motion” beside the player. The website never plays audio.
What is included in Vinylen Pro Lifetime?
Music browsing, playback, the current player, and Soft Glow are free. Vinylen Pro Lifetime unlocks Studio on iPad, and Studio, Wallpaper, Floating, and removal of upgrade reminders on Mac. Future styles and decorations specifically designated Pro are included when released; this does not include every future DiscCam product or service.
Pro is a one-time, non-consumable purchase with a US base price of $3.99. Apple shows your localized price at checkout. There is no Vinylen account, advertising, or recurring subscription. Apple Music and Spotify subscriptions are separate. When Vinylen for iPad is available, the same lifetime purchase can be restored with the purchasing Apple Account.
Restore Vinylen Pro
Open Vinylen’s Settings and choose “Restore Purchases,” or use the same option on the upgrade screen. Make sure the App Store on that device uses the Apple Account that originally purchased Vinylen Pro. Vinylen does not require its own login.
If no purchase is found, check the App Store account and your internet connection, then retry. Cancelling checkout does not buy the upgrade. A pending purchase unlocks Pro only after Apple confirms it. The app caches verified Pro status for offline use, but purchase validation and restoration may need an internet connection. If access is unavailable, reconnect and try restoring again.
For more help, see Apple’s purchase-restoration guidance. If you were charged and restoration still fails, email us using the contact below. Do not buy the upgrade again just to troubleshoot.
Request a refund
Apple handles refunds for purchases billed through the App Store. Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com with the purchasing Apple Account, choose the refund option, and select the purchase and reason. Eligibility depends on Apple’s process and applicable law; approval is not guaranteed.
If the purchase is pending or does not appear, follow Apple’s refund instructions. Vinylen Pro is not a recurring subscription, so there is no recurring Vinylen charge to cancel. A refund or revocation can remove Pro access.
Turn optional analytics on or off
Google Firebase Analytics is off until you choose “Share optional usage analytics” in Vinylen’s Settings. If enabled, Vinylen sends app usage and basic device information to Google Firebase servers to help us understand setup, broad feature choices, and the upgrade flow. It never includes songs, artists, albums, playlists, searches, artwork URLs, or your Apple account. Music and purchases work without it.
Turning it off stops future Firebase Analytics collection from that installation and resets the analytics identifier stored locally. Read the Privacy Policy for the event list, automatic technical data, retention, and privacy-request options.
Manage local data or make a privacy request
On Mac, music permissions are managed in System Settings → Privacy & Security; on iPad, use iPadOS Settings. Revoking permission does not erase existing local preferences, saved selections, artwork caches, or reminder counters. Uninstalling may also leave these files behind.
Email us for help removing Vinylen’s local data or to request access, correction, or deletion of information we handle. We cannot remotely erase files on your device. Apple and Spotify manage their own account data. Our Privacy Policy explains purchases, email support, retention, and your choices.
